Martell opted to transfer out of Ohio State’s program after Georgia five-star quarterback Justin Fields decided to transfer to OSU.Martell, a rising redshirt sophomore, will reportedly attempt to gain immediate eligibility at Miami for the 2019 season.The former Ohio State quarterback has hired a lawyer and will be seeking a waiver from the NCAA to be able to play right away. It’s unclear at this point if Martell will be granted that waiver, but those close to him feel he has a strong case, mostly centered on Ohio State’s coaching change.Martell will be joining a crowded quarterback room at Miami.One of those Miami quarterbacks, four-star Jarren Williams, isn’t backing down from any competition.“Nothing excites me more than competition!” Williams tweeted.Nothing excites me more than competition ❗️— Jarren Williams (@Jarren2Williams) January 18, 2019Williams, a dual-threat quarterback, was ranked the No. 5 pro-style QB in the country coming out of high school by 247Sports’ Composite Rankings.Martell, if he’s made eligible for the 2019 season, will be one of a couple of quarterbacks competing for the starting job, along with Williams.Miami opens its 2019 schedule on Aug. 31 against Florida.
