Guyanese athletes continue dominance at Suriname’s Telesur 10K Road Race

first_imgGUYANESE athletes continued their dominance in the Suriname’s Telesur 10K Road Race, as Eulene Josiah Tanner took her third consecutive women’s title, and Cleveland Thomas successfully defended his men’s title, after a tight race against his fellow countryman Winston Missigher, yesterday in Paramaribo, Suriname.Josiah-Tanner clocked 40 minutes 29 seconds to continue her rule, leading over Carolien Marlet, who crossed the finishing line over four minutes after Josiah-Tanner (44:48.00s). The last podium positive went to Guyana’s Ashanti Scott after her 45 minutes 51 seconds run.In the men’s race, Missigher was making it very hard for Thomas to take a big win. Thomas led for most of the race, but Missigher was always very close behind. Thomas quickly realised he would need to pull off a last kilometre sprint if he was to ever shake the Missigher, but even then he could not shake the Running Brave athlete. In the end it was a dip at the finish line that gave him the win over Missigher as he clocked 34 minutes 19 seconds. Lorenzo Main was the first Surinamese to cross the finish line, and he did so in a time of 35 minutes 16 seconds.“I feel good but i know I can do better,” Thomas expressed to Chronicle Sport yesterday. He has plans to go back for the second leg of the race later this month, in the hope of improving his times.“I will go back and continue my training so that I can do better in the second leg on May 13,” Thomas promised.last_img read more
