WHS SOFTBALL Wildcats Defeat Winchester Lose To Arlington In Close Games

first_imgWILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington High School Varsity Softball team (5-2) defeated Winchester by a score of 4-2 on Monday, May 6, 2019.Scoring was a premium, with all of the scoring coming in the third and fourth innings.In the top of the third, after Kacie Bourrell reached on an error and Jenna Sweeney reached on a bunt, Ashley Crawford (2 RBI) cleared the bases with a double to left center. Bella Kieran (1 RBI) later hit her own double plating Crawford.In the top of the fourth, right fielder Gianna Brunetto reached on a single and then stole second base. Brunetto reached third on a drop third strike to Kayla Bourrell. Kacie Bourrell (1 RBI) executed a very nice safety squeeze scoring Brunetto for the Wildcats 4th run.The Wildcats immediately gave back two runs in the bottom of the inning via a couple of singles and a defensive mistake. From then on, pitcher Ally Moran closed the door finishing up with 12 strikeouts along the way.Second baseman Jenna Sweeney led the way defensively with 6 putouts.—WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington High School Varsity Softball team (5-3) was defeated by Arlington High by a score of 6-4 on Wednesday, May 8, 2019.The Wildcats came out early and scored three in the first inning.  The first three batters — Jenna Sweeney, Ashley Crawford and Ally Moran — reached base on two walks and a hit batter.  After Bella Kieran struck out, Ryan Bailey ripped and RBI single to center plating Sweeney. Chase Andersen walked to load the bases again.  Kayla Burrell singled scoring Crawford and Tori Gemellaro (running for Moran).Bella Kieran was called out at the plate in a controversial call negating a big scoring chance for Wilmington in the sixth.In the seventh, Kayla Bourrell reached on an error and immediately stole second.  She scored on a defensive error by the Spy Ponders’ right fielder. Unfortunately, the Wildcats had runners on first and second but could not get the timely hit they desperately needed.The Wildcats also made some errors on routine during the day.  There was a lack of communication on some plays which resulted in the ball just dropping between the players.“The plate umpire had a small strike zone today,” said Coach Audrey Cabral. “Both pitchers threw a lot of  pitches especially in the first inning… Arlington was just more patient at the plate today.”Like Wilmington Apple on Facebook. Giant anaconda crosses busy road in Brazil Watch viral video

first_imgThe giant green anaconda slithered its way across multiple lanes of a highway in Brazil. TwitterTraffic jams can turn out to be frustrating at times. We all have been in traffic jams, haven’t we? Have you ever been a part of any traffic jam for a good reason? Something similar happened in Brazil recently and we don’t know how to react.Traffic on a busy road was interrupted and forced to make an unexpected stop after people spotted a giant anaconda across the road in the northwestern state of Rondônia. In a viral video that has been doing the rounds on the internet, a huge green anaconda, at least 10-foot-long, slithered its way across multiple lanes of the highway in Porto Velho, Brazil.The beautiful creature was seen making its way with all glory and social media is going crazy over the video. As the snake crawled slowly over the road’s median divider, courageous spectators stood close by to capture an iconic moment.Beautiful animal, indeed.But till it eats you alive…Reportedly, the video of the incident was shared by Italo Nascimento Fernandes. The clip shows a mammoth snake trying to cross the road as people around it watched curiously. Many bystanders can be seen getting down from their respective cars and helping to stop other vehicles from approaching to let the reptile pass.The snake was over three-metres long and weighs around 30 kilograms, as per news reports. 42 foreigners among Sri Lanka attack victims

Photo: ReutersSri Lankan authorities have identified 42 foreign nationals among the 253 people killed in the string of Easter suicide bombings, officials said Tuesday.Another 12 foreigners remain unaccounted for and could be among still unidentified bodies at Colombo’s police morgue, foreign ministry officials said.Five wounded foreigners were still in hospital after the 21 April blasts at churches and hotels claimed by the Islamic State group.A ministry statement said the highest number of victims were from India (11) followed by Britain (six), China (four) and Denmark (three).Saudi Arabia, Spain and Turkey lost two nationals each. Bangladesh, Japan, the Netherlands, Portugal, Switzerland, United States, all lost one national.There were six other people with more than one nationality.Previously authorities had said that 40 foreign nationals were killed and had not given a breakdown on their nationalities.”Human remains of 25 foreign nationals have been repatriated by Monday evening,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.”Additionally, 12 foreign nationals are unaccounted for at present, and could be among the unidentified victims at the Colombo Judicial Medical Officer’s mortuary.”Identification of those killed at the luxury hotels was difficult because many of the bodies were badly mutilated, health authorities have said.The government has declared a state of emergency after the devastating blasts and banned two jihadists groups accused of responsibility for the bombings.Many tourists have left the country after the attacks and there has been a sharp decline in the number of foreigners visiting the island after several countries warned against travel to Sri Lanka.Sri Lanka’s finance ministry expects a 30-percent decline in tourist arrivals this year leading to a loss in revenues of about $1.5 billion.last_img read more
