Comair opens Dar es Salaam routes

first_img19 August 2010Comair Limited, operator of low-cost airline kulula.com and the British Airways franchise in South Africa, is again expanding its African network, and will soon be offering five return flights a week between Johannesburg and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.British Airways will be operating the new route from 2 November, and the flights will also be integrated and sold through the kulula.com distribution network.“We look forward to including Dar es Salaam in our growing regional network,” Comair network development manager Stuart Cochrane said in a statement last month.“The growth of this network is part of our ongoing commitment to the South African government’s airlift strategy, which aims to improve access to and from South Africa for both business and tourism.”Daily service on the cardsComair will commence with five return flights per week, the full allocation granted to it by the International Air Services Licensing Council. However, Cochrane said Comair’s intention would be to grow this route to a daily service as soon as possible.Cochrane said the introduction of additional flights to Dar es Salaam would bring a much-needed alternative service – and competitive pricing – to a market that was currently only serviced by one airline operator.“Tanzania is a beautiful country and is rapidly becoming a desirable business and tourist destination,” he said. “We are looking forward to developing this route as a successful addition to our network.”SAinfo reporterWould you like to use this article in your publication or on your website? South African private hospital group Medi-Clinic has entered into a collaboration with Emaar Properties to take over the running of the Dubai-based property developer’s healthcare portfolio, which includes three clinics in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). EHL employs around 1 500 people, and operates seven of the UAE’s most prestigious healthcare facilities, including the Welcare Hospital, The City Hospital and five successful private clinics in Dubai – the Welcare Ambulatory Care Centre, Emirates Diagnostic Clinic, Welcare Clinic Mirdif, Welcare Clinic Al Qusais, and the newly opened Welcare Ibn Batutta Clinic. Strengthening healthcare standards As part of the agreement, which takes effect on 15 January, Medi-Clinic’s Middle East division, Emirates Healthcare Limited (EHL), will acquire the assets of and operate the Dubai Mall Medical Centre, the Arabian Ranches Clinic and the Meadows Clinic. “Medi-Clinic has experienced positive growth in its Middle East operations and EHL has established itself as a brand that is associated with high quality healthcare,” Hertzog said. “The association with a property development market leader such as Emaar Properties confirms our standing as a prominent player.”last_img read more

4 injured in Punjab clash

Ambedkar at the town’s ‘Goal Chowk’ (square) and to rename it as ‘Samvidhan Chowk’.
