In part, due to its branding. MailChimp gave its brand a distinct, recognizable mascot: a chimpanzee named Frederick von Chimpenheimer IV. Adding this branding gave the brand an edge of humor, personality, and friendliness. It helped build an emotional bridge between MailChimp and its consumers – something that was important for the email automation company. Without Freddie, the brand might have risked appearing too dehumanized thanks to its automation technology.MailChimp understands that organizing email campaigns is not the most exciting endeavor. To appeal to its audience, the brand made it more fun. Its website is creative, interactive, and engaging – even for people who don’t know the first thing about email campaign automation. Animated graphics and original cartoons add personality to the brand that customers can connect with. They are then more likely to use Mailchimp and remain loyal to the platform. It also helps that the website contains many other UX best practices, including ample white space and value-driven content.Lesson: Don’t be afraid to show your brand’s personality. The Limits of Your Growth

first_imgYour growth is limited by your ability to listen to ideas with which you disagree, explore beliefs that are in conflict with your own, and your ability to take the perspective of another, understanding that they hold some piece of the truth. You arrived where you are today because you have been exposed to a certain set of ideas about who you are, what you are supposed to be doing, and what is possible for you. You are also here because you refused a certain set of ideas, some of which would surely have harmed you, and others that would just as surely benefited you—had you not dismissed those ideas because you disagreed with them. Maybe the person who shared the idea wasn’t the right person to deliver the idea to you. Or maybe you just dismissed it because you disagreed without exploring any further.Other people believe things that you don’t believe. Their beliefs allow them to produce certain results in certain areas, and your beliefs do the same for you. To a certain point. But refusing to consider beliefs that conflict with your existing beliefs causes stagnation, arrested development. If you are not open to exploring new beliefs, then you cut your self off from different ideas—and different results. The more you find someone else’s beliefs threatening, the more you should explore that set of beliefs. This is not to suggest that you should adopt other people’s beliefs as your own without serious consideration, but it is a reminder that if you have not changed your beliefs in many years, you are not growing.Your growth is limited to your ability to take another person’s perspective, to understand why they think what they think, why they believe what they believe, and why they act the way that they act—without judgment. When you can hold another person’s perspective, without judging them, and working to understand the piece of the truth they hold, you are growing. What you know and believe now got you to this point. What you are willing to change will get you further. Your growth is limited only by your willingness to explore something new, even when you believe it is something with which you disagree. 14 years on, some soul-searching questions for Rane

first_imgFrom whether joining Congress was a mistake to his disinterest in Delhi as Rajya Sabha MP, and from slamming the Shiv Sena leadership to candid confessions, the release of former chief minister Narayan Rane’s autobiography turned into a look at his political career with the political bigwigs present on Friday hinting that it would have been better had he not joined Congress, 14 years ago. It began with Mr. Rane’s long-time friend and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari recollecting the former’s decision to quit the Sena and join Congress. “I knew it was a mistake. I even told you so. As a friend I even tried to pursuade you to not join the Congress. Had you not joined the Congress, the history of this State would have been different,” said Mr. Gadkari while releasing the autobiography titled No Holds Barred. NCP chief Sharad Pawar released the Marathi version titled Zanzavat.Mr. Rane had a brief stint as chief minister in 1999 after the first BJP-Sena coalition government assumed office in 1995. In 2005 Mr. Rane quit Sena following his differences with the then executive president Uddhav Thackeray. He then joined the Congress and was reportedly promised a chief ministership which never happened. In 2017 he quit Congress to float Maharashtra Swabhiman Party and was made Rajya Sabha MP from the BJP quota in 2018. His jump to the BJP is blamed at the possibility of probe by Enforcement Directorate (ED). Mr. Pawar, asked in jest whether it was a mistake to quit Sena and join Congress. “Now let him decide whether it was a mistake or grave mistake,” he said. Reminding him of the promises made to him by Congress, Mr Pawar said, “We have spent our lives there. One should only remember the promise. No one knows whether it will be fulfilled or not,” he said, taunting Congress. Mr. Rane, however did not respond to points raised about him joining the Congress, but recalled his memories of Sena founder late Bal Thackeray and slammed Uddhav Thackeray saying he received everything on a platter. “I received everything without demanding. But one thing is sure, I did not become the MP by my choice. I knew that my time was being wasted at a time when I wanted to do much in the State,” he said.last_img read more

ICC World Cup: Hosts ready to roll out their act

first_imgRatnakar Shetty, the 2011 World Cup tournament director, is confident the five venues that are yet to receive a final okay from the International Cricket Council (ICC) will be ready soon to host the matches. Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, which will host the final on April 2, is among the venues that are in the last stretch of being completed. But Shetty, who’s also the chief administrative officer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), says the showpiece venue is just a few days from being ready.”It should be ready in the next 10 days. It’s only some finishing work in the corporate boxes and some other areas that has delayed the work a bit,” Shetty said in an interview with Mail Today. Kolkata’s Eden Gardens is the other venue that is behind the schedule. “It should be match-ready soon,” Shetty assured us. A joint team of the ICC and the BCCI inspected all the 13 venues in November. “One more inspection of three venues in Sri Lanka and of the Wankhede Stadium and Eden Gardens will take place some time in the third week of this month,” Shetty said. The Sri Lankan venues that are up for inspection are the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Sooriyawewa (Hambantota), and the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.Shetty exuded confidence.”The preparations are on track. I am not concerned about anything, except that many of the matches being played in the Indian sector don’t feature India,” he said.advertisementAnother issue the tournament director raised was that of ticket prices. “We have urged out state units to keep the ticket prices low,” Shetty said. “They should look at bringing in school and college students so that stadiums are not empty for matches where India is not playing. The tickets for these matches will be priced in such a way that more people can buy them. The ticket rates will be different at different venues,” he added.Continuing on the subject of crowd management, Shetty said, “Crowds come on their own for matches where India is playing because of their passion for the game. When two foreign teams play, the interest level is not the same. We noticed the difference during the Champions League T20 matches. The associations must think of ways in which they can bring the people to the stadiums.” The message that should go around is that there’s a lot to learn from World Cup matches even if India is not playing.last_img read more
