Labourer found hanging at Silver Hill

first_imgA 21-year-old man was on Wednesday last found hanging from a chicken pen at Silver Hill, Linden-Soesdyke Highway.The dead man has been identified as Nigel Samuels, a farm labourer of Silver Hill.Based on reports received, the now dead man was employed with Wesley Smith and his brother Elvis Smith for the past two weeks, but only recently started to live at the farm with his school-age brother who attends school a short distance away.However, on the day in question, the now deceased man had breakfast in the morning as normal after which he went to tend to the chickens. After some time elapsed, one of the owners of the farm went to check on Samuels only to find him hanging from a piece of rope that was tied to a rafter in the chicken pen.The Rural Constable in the area was immediately contacted and in turn informed the Police. The body was subsequently taken down and examined by the Police, but there were no marks of violence.As such, the Police ruled out foul play, and the body was taken to the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC). A post-mortem performed by Government Pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh gave the cause of death as hanging. The body was handed over to the family for burial.last_img read more

Lawyer claims jury “pressurised” into finding man guilty after weather warnings

first_imgLawyers for a Donegal man jailed for indecently assaulting a babysitter almost 40 years ago have claimed the jury were “pressurised” into returning a guilty verdict.Patrick Patton, of Cashelard, Ballyshannon, had pleaded not guilty to two counts of indecently assaulting the then 14-year-old babysitter in his home in July 1980.
