Categories: Letters to the Editor, Opinion The underpasses between Rexford and Glenville and the replacement of the Rexford Bridge have needed doing for literally decades, projects waiting patiently for funding to become available. When money finally was allotted, they asked for community input, listened, and did their best to accommodate what was requested within the constraints they had, often facing citizen angst over things like “roundabouts.” They managed the projects with a minimum of disruption to the large daily flows of traffic, with hardly a stoppage. The results have been very evident in the greatly improved traffic flows and enhanced safety. The lower underpass enroute to Glenville still needs better signage to stem the continuous collisions by taller vehicles, and some accommodation needs to be made for vehicles forced to turn around.Extending the merge-lane heading north between Stewart’s and the Route 146/Glenridge intersection, and the replacement of the final legacy railroad underpass on Maple Avenue, will eliminate the last of the dangerous bottlenecks. One hopes these are on the schedule. But these last projects are minor compared to what they have already accomplished, and to the folks that came together to achieve that, the kudos and thanks from a great many of us who have benefited are extended.John KelchRexfordMore from The Daily Gazette:EDITORIAL: Beware of voter intimidationEDITORIAL: Thruway tax unfair to working motoristsEDITORIAL: Urgent: Today is the last day to complete the censusFoss: Should main downtown branch of the Schenectady County Public Library reopen?Police: Schenectady woman tried to take car in Clifton Park hours after arrest, release in prior the… It would be remiss not to acknowledge the diligent folks at the state Department of Transportation and their construction partners for the fine job they have done in recent years for those of us who routinely travel the Niskayuna-Glenville-Southern Saratoga transportation corridor.
