Sourav Ganguly refuses to comment on Ravi Shastri’s ‘best team’ remark, wishes him good luck

first_imgFormer India captain Sourav Ganguly has wished coach Ravi Shastri “all the best” for his coaching stint with Team India, which is in Sri Lanka for a full-fledged series.India crushed the hosts by 304 runs at Galle last week to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. And the world number one Test side are firm favourites to wrap up the series in a country where Test wins have been rare for touring teams.WATCH FULL VIDEOIt was, however, in Sri Lanka back in 2015 that India began their resurgence under the Virat Kohli-Shastri combine. MS Dhoni had retired from Test cricket a few months ago and Kohli stepped into his shoes perfectly, leading India to their first Test series win in Sri Lanka since 1993.The former captain looked back at the tour of 2015 and reminded everyone that some of the biggest names in Indian cricket had never won a series in Sri Lanka, something Kohli’s team has done. (Colombo Test: Lokesh Rahul to return as India eye eighth successive series win)”This team has been there with each other for two years and they are much more experienced now,” Shastri said.”They have already done things a lot of Indian teams and a lot of big names could not do in their careers. Like for example, win a series here (in Sri Lanka) for the first time in over 20 years. (Shikhar Dhawan or Abhinav Mukund will have to make way for KL Rahul: Virat Kohli)”There have been a lot of big names who have played for 20 years, they have come to Sri Lanka many times and never won a series. This team is used to doing things a lot of other teams have not done,” he said.advertisementHowever, former India captain Ganguly has refused to comment on Shastri’s remark but hopes the coach carries Indian cricket forward.”To be honest, I don’t have much to say on this. Wish him all the best. Given him a job to do till the World Cup in 2019 and hopefully he will get the Cup and does the job,” Ganguly told India Today. However, Ganguly reminded that under his captaincy India won series in Pakistan for the first time in 15 years.”You’re forgetting the win in Pakistan for the first time in Pakistan in 15 years. Also the win in England in 2007. Won’t go into comparisons. Wish him all the best. Want the team to do well and hopefully he will do well in the years to come,” he added.KOHLI EYES RECORDKohli’s team is on the verge of winning eighth successive Test series victory and they are firm favourites to do so when they take on Sri Lanka in the second Test at Colombo from Thursday.Ganguly admitted he admires Kohli’s batting and said the current skipper has improved as a captain.”Virat has improved immensely as a captain. He got the ingredients of a good captain. He’s hungry, he’s himself a remarkable player. I like to sit on the sofa and watch him on TV. He got the ability and there’s no doubt about it,” he said.”Not thinking too far ahead. Looking forward to watching the next Test match in Sri Lanka.”Ganguly also pointed out that Sri Lanka face a herculean task against the rampaging Indian team.”They (Sri Lanka) have to play well to compete against this team. They were down and out against Zimbabwe but somehow they managed to win. They got hammered in the first. It’s going to be an herculean task. Sri Lanka will have to do things out of the box and see if they can compete with India,” he said.PUJARA APPROACHES MILESTONEAfter Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s No.3 Cheteshwar Pujara is set to play his 50th Test. Pujara averages 52 and Ganguly is mighty impressed with the Saurashtra batsman.”Remarkable numbers. He’s half-way through now. You expect him to play 100 Tests. He doesn’t play ODI and T20 cricket. You bring him back in Tests and he hits the stride straight away. The good thing about him is that he went to county cricket and that has helped him. I said a year ago when he was dropped against the West Indies that they should play him at No. 3 and I was not wrong,” Ganguly said.Ganguly also said that he feels Abhinav Mukund will have to make way for Lokesh Rahul, who missed the first Test due to viral fever. Mukund though presented a case for himself with 81 in the second innings after Shikhar Dhawan smashed his career-best 190.advertisement”Mukund shouldn’t be disheartened. He has presented his case and he will get his time,” he said.last_img read more

Renesas: integrated cockpit and connected car devices with hypervisor for R-Car SoC

first_imgRenesas Electronics announced the “R-Car virtualization support package” that enables easier development of hypervisors for the R-Car automotive SoC. The R-Car virtualization support package includes, at no charge, both the R-Car hypervisor development guide document and sample software for use as reference in such development for software vendors who develop the embedded hypervisors that are required for integrated cockpits and connected car applications. A hypervisor is a virtualization operating system that allows multiple guest OSs, such as Linux, Android, and various real-time OSs, to run completely independently on a single chip. Renesas announced the R-Car hypervisor in April of 2017 and the new R-Car virtualization Support Package was developed to help software vendors accelerate their development of R-Car hypervisors. As more and more R-Car hypervisors become available from software vendors, OEM and Tier 1 companies will have a wider choice of hypervisor options and will be able to select an optimal hypervisor for the combination of the guest OS to be run, and for the system of meter cluster and cloud services used. This will increase the flexibility of integrated cockpit system and connected car development and make development faster. The third-generation R-Car SoCs were designed assuming that they would be used with a hypervisor. The Arm CPU cores, graphics cores, video/audio IP and other functions include virtualization functions and, originally, for software vendors to make use of these functions, they would have had to understand both the R-Car hardware manuals and the R-Car virtualization functions and start by looking into how to implement a hypervisor. Now, by following development guides in the R-Car virtualization support package, not only can software vendors easily take advantage of these functions, they will be able to take full advantage of the advanced features of R-Car. Also, by providing sample software that can be used as a reference, this package supports rapid development.By growing its ecosystem with partner companies, including hypervisor vendors, Renesas plans to further expand its lineup of the virtualization package, a combination of a hypervisor and guest OS, and aims to lead the deployment of virtualization into vehicles to contribute to the realization of a safe and secure automotive society.Share this:TwitterFacebookLinkedInMoreRedditTumblrPinterestWhatsAppSkypePocketTelegram Tags: Chips & Components Continue Reading Previous Moxa develops Microsoft Azure IoT Edge-ready gateway devicesNext A peek inside Amazon FreeRTOS: Communication and memorylast_img read more

Lucas Torreira caps Arsenal’s comeback in 4-2 derby win over 10-man Spurs

first_img 5 Papastathopoulos 16 Holding 8 Winks Read more Facebook 14 Aubameyang Substitutes 16 Walker-Peters Share on Messenger Pinterest 24 Aurier There was controversy when Spurs went ahead. Son had sprinted through again and Rob Holding jumped into a risky tackle but, when Son checked back, there was no contact from the Arsenal defender on him. Mike Dean still awarded the penalty and, after further arguments between rival players, Kane converted for his eighth goal in eight games against Arsenal. He has equalled Emmanuel Adebayor’s scoring record in north London derbies.Mustafi hit the crossbar with a looping header in first-half stoppage time but Spurs were in the ascendancy and Emery made his double substitution at the interval. Arsenal were level soon enough. Bellerín curved a ball in behind Vertonghen and Ramsey twisted to hook it inside for Aubameyang. The striker bent a precision first-time finish inside the near post.Amid the bedlam it was easy to forget the sub-plot of Mesut Özil’s absence. Arsenal said that the playmaker had felt another of his back spasms but there was nevertheless plenty of eye-rolling when the teamsheets landed. It was easy to wonder whether Özil would have worked in Emery’s starting 3-4-2-1 formation. 1 Cech Spurs Spurs face FA inquiry after fan throws banana skin at Arsenal’s Aubameyang match reports Match stats 4 Alderweireld Fouls 34 Xhaka 16 Arsenal Off target 5 Spurs 5 Arsenal On target 5 Spurs Read more Share on Facebook 8 5 27 Lucas Moura 20 Alli The Fiver: sign up and get our daily football email. It felt as though Arsenal might struggle to maintain the intensity and Spurs roared back into the game, turning it on its head before half-time. Alli had started off the left but he regularly tucked in behind Harry Kane and Son Heung-min and the visitors gained a foothold. Son showed his pace and threat with a series of darts, two of which saw him test Bernd Leno from tight angles. The equaliser came from a Christian Eriksen free-kick, whipped in towards the near post, and it was a horror moment for Leno as he allowed Dier’s flick header to bounce, rear up above his hands and squirm inside the near post. 20 Mustafi Corners Lineups 19 Leno Share on LinkedIn Spurs flickered at the start of the second half, with Kane twice going close, but Arsenal – and Emery – turned the screw after the equaliser. Mustafi was denied by a goalline clearance by Alli and, after Son had tested Leno following a Bellerín error, Emery swapped Mustafi for Guendouzi and went to the midfield diamond.Ramsey initiated Arsenal’s third goal when he robbed the dawdling Foyth and found Lacazette. There was fortune because the striker was slipping as he shot – there was also the deflection off Dier – and the best day of Arsenal’s season was complete when Torreira rolled away from Dier on to Aubameyang’s pass and shot into the corner. Arsenal extended their remarkable unbeaten run in all competitions to 19 matches but now they have their statement victory. Unai Emery and his re-energerised team have built momentum and belief during the sequence, although they had not been able to beat a Big Six Premier League rival. That changed on a wild afternoon in north London when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang continued his dead-eyed scoring exploits and Arsenal fought back from 2-1 down to register yet another come-from-behind win. 41 59 (s 46′) TOT41ARS59% Aubameyang got the equaliser for 2-2 – his second of the game – and he has now scored with his last 10 shots on target in the league. It was the substitute, Alexandre Lacazette, who put Arsenal in front with a shot that deflected off Eric Dier after a lapse from Juan Foyth and the outstanding Lucas Torreira added the gloss with his first goal in Arsenal colours.Tottenham’s frustration was complete when Jan Vertonghen jumped into a rash challenge on Lacazette to earn a second yellow card on 85 minutes. They will reflect on how they had stabilised after Aubameyang’s early penalty only to be overrun towards the end. Mauricio Pochettino mentioned fatigue as a factor, in the wake of his team’s Champions League exertions against Internazionale last Wednesday. After six straight wins in all competitions this was a jolt.Emery deserved credit for how he reacted at 2-1 down, making bold attacking changes, the first of which saw Aaron Ramsey and a second striker, Lacazette, come on for the second half. At 2-2 Emery moved to a 4-4-2 diamond midfield system and, on each occasion, the dividends were immediate. It was a rip-roaring derby, in which tempers were never far from boiling point and the atmosphere pulsed from the first whistle. Things spilled over after Dier had equalised for 1-1 when some of the Arsenal substitutes took exception to the Tottenham midfielder’s celebrations with his teammates. Stephan Lichtsteiner appeared to tap Dier and, as projectiles were thrown from the stand, players in red and white came together in a mass confrontation.Ramsey, who was then off the field, had to be pulled apart from Dele Alli while another Arsenal substitute, Mattéo Guendouzi, rowed with Jesús Pérez, the Spurs assistant manager. There was plenty of pushing and shoving. Pochettino had run up the touchline to act as a peacemaker.Arsenal started at breakneck pace and the touchpaper was lit when Aubameyang opened the scoring from the penalty spot and celebrated in front of the away supporters, who pelted him with missiles, including – most regrettably – a banana skin. The penalty was awarded when Vertonghen touched Granit Xhaka’s free-kick away from Shkodran Mustafi with his hand. Vertonghen was booked for the offence.Arsenal were irrepressible in the opening 20 minutes, with Sead Kolasinac, in particular, making inroads from left wing-back. He cut one cross back for Alex Iwobi, who forced Hugo Lloris into a smart save with his legs. Moments later the other wing-back, Héctor Bellerín, saw a volley at the far post blocked by Ben Davies.

UP govt order on SC list not proper Thawar Chand Gehlot

first_imgNew Delhi: The Centre Tuesday said the BJP- led Uttar Pradesh government’s move to include 17 communities belonging to OBCs in the Scheduled Castes (SC) list was not in accordance with the Constitution as only Parliament has the right to do so. “This is not proper,” Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot said in the Rajya Sabha after the matter was raised by BSP member Satish Chandra Misra during the Zero Hour. The Uttar Pradesh government had on June 24 directed district magistrates and commissioners to issue caste certificates to 17 OBCs – Kashyap, Rajbhar, Dhivar, Bind, Kumhar, Kahar, Kewat, Nishad, Bhar, Mallah, Prajapati, Dhimar, Batham, Turha, Godia, Manjhi and Machua. Also Read – How a psychopath killer hid behind the mask of a devout laity! Gehlot said if the UP government wants to go ahead with its proposal it should follow procedure and send a proposal to the Centre. “We would then consider it,” he said. Gehlot further said the order of the UP government was not in accordance with the Constitution. He asked the UP government not to issue certificates based on the order else the matter may go to court. The minister, who is also leader of the Rajya Sabha, said shifting of one category to another caste category is the right of Parliament. Also Read – Encounter under way in Pulwama, militant killed In the past also three-four similar proposals were sent to Parliament, but not agreed upon, he noted. Gehlot further said the state government should have followed proper procedure. Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu asked Gehlot to advise the state governmnet to follow due process. Raising the issue through a Zero Hour mention, Misra said under Article 341 sub clause (2) of the Constitution, the power to make changes in the SC list lies only with Parliament. “Even President (of India) does not have the power to tinker, alter or make changes (in the list),” he said, adding these 17 castes will neither get benefits meant for OBCs nor SCs since a state government has no power to make any alteration to the SC list. He said the BSP was in favour of including 17 castes in SC but only after following prescribed procedure and increasing SC quota proportionately. “The power of Parliament cannot be upsurged by a state,” he said. The BSP leader wanted the Centre to issue an advisory to the Uttar Pradesh government to withdraw the “unconstitutional order” as it is harming castes. The BJP government in UP is not the first to move on the 17 most backward castes in the OBC list. In 2005, the SP government of Mulayam Singh Yadav passed the first order to include 11 of these castes but the order was stayed and the proposal sent to the Centre. Subsequently, the BSP government of Mayawati quashed the notification. The BSP later said these castes could be included in the SC list provided the SC quota is increased. The SP government of Akhilesh Yadav cleared the inclusion proposal ahead of the 2017 assembly elections but it was challenged and is in court. Misra said Article 341 provides that the President specify castes, races or tribes or parts of or groups to be Scheduled Castes after Parliament may by law include or exclude from the list of Scheduled Castes. The move by the Adityanath government comes ahead of by- elections to 12 Assembly seats in the State.last_img read more

Angelina Jolie Writes In Support Of Malala Yousafzai

first_imgAngelina Jolie has written an article for The DailyBeast.com in support of Malala Yousafzai, the 14-year-old Pakistani girl shot and wounded by Taliban gunmen for speaking up for girls’ education.“The shots fired on Malala struck the heart of the nation, and as the Taliban refuse to back down, so too do the people of Pakistan,” wrote Jolie. “This violent and hateful act seems to have accomplished the opposite of its intent, as Pakistanis rally to embrace Malala’s principles and reject the tyranny of fear. A spokesman for the Pakistani Taliban said “let this be a lesson.” Yes. Let this be a lesson—that an education is a basic human right, a right that Pakistan’s daughters will not be denied.“This terrible event marks the beginning of a necessary revolution in girls’ education.“Malala is proof that it only takes the voice of one brave person to inspire countless men, women, and children. In classrooms and at kitchen tables around the world, mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters are praying for Malala’s swift recovery and committing themselves to carry her torch.”To read the full article, click here.last_img read more
